What Is a Good Age to Start Sisterlocks®?

How Long Does It Take to Get Sisterlocks®?
Sisterlocks are extremely detailed. Establishing hundreds of small locs takes considerably longer than a typical salon appointment.
Installation Time
A full establishment may require approximately 10 to 20 hours or longer depending on your individual hair and installation.
What Affects the Time?
Hair length, density, texture, head size, number of locs, and other individual factors can all influence installation time.
When Will They Fully Lock?
Installation day begins the journey. Your locs continue to settle and mature afterward. For some clients, the settling process can take six months or longer.

Do Sisterlocks® Break Easily Because They Are Thin?
Small does not automatically mean weak. However, because each loc contains a relatively small amount of hair, protecting the integrity of that hair matters.
Stay Consistent With Maintenance
Keep up with your recommended retightening schedule and professional maintenance.
Avoid Excessive Tension
Repeatedly pulling locs into extremely tight styles can place unnecessary stress on the hair and scalp.
Be Gentle With Your Locs
Avoid aggressive manipulation, unnecessary heat, and other practices that repeatedly stress your hair.
Watch the Root
If a loc becomes noticeably thinner near the root, address the change rather than waiting for it to break.
Pay Attention to Your Scalp
Persistent itching, burning, tenderness, thinning, or visible scalp changes deserve closer attention.
Ask for Help Early
A thinning loc does not automatically mean Sisterlocks are the problem. Hair loss and scalp concerns can have many different causes.
How Often Do Sisterlocks® Need Retightening?
Sisterlocks can reduce day-to-day manipulation, but they are not maintenance-free.

During the early stages, retightening is commonly recommended around every four to six weeks.

What Should You Eat for Healthy Sisterlocks®?
There is no special Sisterlocks diet. Your locs are your natural hair, so a balanced diet that supports your overall health also helps support normal hair health.
Protein
Eggs, fish, chicken, beans, lentils, Greek yogurt, tofu, and other protein sources.
Iron-Rich Foods
Lean meats, beans, lentils, leafy greens, and iron-fortified foods.
Healthy Fats
Avocado, nuts, seeds, olive oil, and fatty fish can be part of a balanced diet.
Fruits & Vegetables
Include a variety of berries, citrus, peppers, sweet potatoes, leafy greens, and other colorful produce.
Food first. Supplements second. Do not automatically begin taking biotin, iron, zinc, or other supplements simply because you have locs or want your hair to grow faster. Suspected deficiencies or unexplained hair loss should be discussed with a qualified healthcare professional.
